Qantas increases fares and fuel surcharges

Last week, Qantas announced further increases to international fuel surcharges and domestic fares, in response to higher global jet fuel prices. So too did the airline announce an increase in change-fee levels.

International fuel surcharge:

From 12 April 2012, the following fuel surcharge increases will be applied to Qantas international fares booked in Australia:

All existing international bookings must be ticketed on or before 11 April 2012; otherwise the increased fuel surcharge levels will apply.

Domestic fare increase:

From 5 April, 2012, domestic Qantas and QantasLink fares will also increase to reflect high fuel costs. The fare increase will vary by route and fare class, but will average around 5 per cent. Examples of these new domestic fares are as follows:

Domestic

Qantas will increase the change fee applicable to Domestic Red e-Deal Fares as follows:

The new change fee level applies to changes on all Red e-Deal fares where the ticket is reissued on/after 2 May 2012, regardless of date of issue of the original ticket.

The new change fee level applies to tickets issued on/after 2 May 2012.

New fuel surcharge for Frequent Flyer Classic Award redemption tickets

Also beginning on the 5 April 2012, Qantas will increase the fuel surcharge for their Frequent Flyer Classic Award redemption tickets by $4 for domestic travel (from $12-$16) and by $10 for Trans-Tasman flights (from $20-$30).

Jetstar will also increase fares on some routes within both its Singapore and Australian markets, as well as some service charges, in response to higher fuel costs.
