Sydney Airport has launched its own iPhone app, becoming Australia’s second major airport, after Melbourne, to make use of the smartphone technology.

The key features include up-to-the-minute flight information, with real-time arrival and departure updates, as well as check-in desk and departure gate information.

The app also allows you to sign up for free flight change information alerts using the ‘subscribe’ button. The alerts are automatically sent to your iPhone, appearing as pop-up notifications.

For outbound flights, these alerts include boarding information and departure delays.

For incoming flights, alerts will be sent if the flight is delayed, when the flight lands, and also to notify passengers of the baggage carousel where luggage can be collected.

The app also provides maps of the terminal, a directory of airport shops and food outlets, and information on the cheapest places to park at Sydney airport.
