On a crisp morning in May a few lucky TravelEdgers were given the opportunity to inspect the brand new Singapore Airlines A380-800 aircraft. Being the first airline to fly the world’s largest commercial aircraft we were expecting great things and were not disappointed.
Once on-board we were greeted by the smiling faces of the SQ team followed by an introduction tour and then off we went to the impressive 2-4-2 configurated Premium Economy. The seats all come with built-in foot and calf-rests, reclining up to 8 inches. Each seat comes with a 13.3-inch HD touchscreen monitor paired with noise-cancelling headphones, great stowage and thoughtfully located compartments for easy access to all your in-flight gadgets.
Next was the 3-4-3 configurated Economy cabin. Each new Economy seat comes with a 11.1-inch touchscreen monitor, power outlets and USB ports, a six-way headrest for the ultimate neck support, ergonomically designed backrests and adjustable footrests with three separate positions. It’s all in the details.
Next on our journey was Business Class. All 78 Business class seats are made with handstitched leather that recline seamlessly into a completely flat bed. The seats in the centre of the aircraft come with a personal divider that can be raised all the way for privacy or lowered completely to create a double bed perfect for two! And while you’re lying comfortably with your complimentary slippers on, there’s plenty of time to explore the 1,000 entertainment options on your 18-inch touchscreen monitor.
Before long we discovered international travel HEAVEN. The 6 First-Class Suites. It took all our strength not to jump into the pyjamas and slippers and get under the perfectly made cotton duvet and drift up into the clouds.
But alas, the tour continued.
In the Double First-Class Suites, the centre divider between rooms disappears and makes a comfortable double bed while you contemplate the mood lighting. And if you haven’t already forgotten that you’re flying, there’s a sliding door that completely shuts the outside world away and window blinds that close at the tap of a button. Yet it doesn’t stop there. The First-Class bathroom include a sit-down vanity counter, so you can freshen up before you land with the spray of facial mist. There’s no doubt about it, it’s complete luxury and the carpet, leather padded compartments and en-suite wardrobe take it to a whole other level.
The TravelEdge Group would like to thank Singapore Airlines for the opportunity to get up close and personal with such an impressive aircraft. There’s no wonder the A380 is the most comfortable and spacious aircraft to grace the skies. It’s a great way to fly.
